Former Rukungiri Municipality parliamentary aspirant Ingrid Turinawe Kamateneti, through her TIK Foundation, has donated scholastic materials worth over Shs20 million to pupils at Kahororo Primary School and Kiyaga Primary School in Rukungiri Municipality.
The donation, which included sanitary pads, mathematical sets, exercise books, pens, pencils, erasers and other essential learning materials, is aimed at supporting pupils from financially struggling households who often lack basic school requirements.
Kamateneti said the initiative was motivated by the need to assist learners whose parents are unable to consistently provide scholastic materials, a challenge she noted continues to affect school attendance and academic performance in many communities.
At Kiyaga Primary School, head teacher Patience Kusiima expressed appreciation for the intervention, saying it would ease pressure on parents who struggle to meet basic school needs.
She noted that more than 500 pupils benefited from the donation.
At Kahororo Primary School, deputy head teacher Rachael Komujuni said the lack of sanitary pads had been contributing to absenteeism among girl pupils, adding that the support would improve both attendance and concentration in class.
She said more than 600 pupils at the school received scholastic materials.
Several pupils, including Alfred Nowamani, Allan Mugabe, Alisha Turihamwe and Catherine Namara, welcomed the donation, describing it as timely support that would improve their learning conditions and overall school experience.
